Thinning hair, treated without surgery, in Vienna, Virginia

TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is a non-surgical treatment for male and female pattern hair loss, developed by Dr. Amiya Prasad, a multi-specialty board-certified surgeon. No incision, no donor area, and for most patients, one or two appointments rather than something to remember every morning.

Individual results vary and no result is guaranteed. Whether this treatment suits you is decided at a consultation, not online.

What we treat

Pattern hair loss, addressed without a transplant

The centre treats one problem and treats it thoroughly. If your hair has lost thickness rather than disappeared entirely, you are describing the situation this protocol was built around.

01

Male pattern hair loss

Androgenetic alopecia in men, from early recession and thinning at the crown through to more established patterns. The treatment is aimed at follicles that have miniaturised and are still producing fine hair, rather than at areas that have been completely bare for years.

02

Female pattern hair loss

Diffuse thinning through the top of the scalp and a widening part, which is the pattern most women experience. Women are often told there is little to offer them short of daily topical treatment, and this is a different option to discuss.

03

Thinning native hair

Hair that is still present but has lost calibre, so the scalp shows through under bright light even though the hair count has not dropped dramatically. This is the situation the protocol was originally developed around.

04

Hair after a previous transplant

Patients who have had transplant surgery and are unhappy with the density they achieved, or whose surrounding native hair has continued to thin around the grafts. The consultation covers what can realistically be improved.

Not sure whether your pattern falls into any of these? That is the question the consultation exists to answer, and the answer is sometimes that a different approach would serve you better.

How TrichoStem works

In plain language, without the science-fair vocabulary

The treatment uses your own blood combined with a wound-healing material, injected into the thinning areas of your scalp. Here is the whole sequence, start to finish.

  1. Your own blood is drawn

The visit starts the way a routine blood test would. A small sample is taken from your arm and spun in a centrifuge to separate out the platelet-rich plasma, the fraction of blood that carries the growth factors your body already uses to repair tissue.

  2. Plasma is combined with extracellular matrix

That plasma is combined with extracellular matrix, a wound-healing material made by ACell. On its own, plasma is absorbed quickly. The matrix is what gives the growth factors a scaffold to sit in, and working out that formulation is the part Dr. Prasad developed.

  3. The scalp is treated in one sitting

The combined material is injected into the thinning areas of the scalp after the area has been numbed. The treatment itself takes place in a single appointment, and most people return to normal activity the same day without bandaging or a recovery period.

  4. Change happens gradually, over months

Nothing visible happens on the day. The intent is to support follicles that have thinned so that they produce thicker hair again, and that plays out over months rather than weeks. Most patients are treated once or twice rather than on an ongoing schedule.

The part Dr. Prasad worked out is the formulation: how the extracellular matrix and the plasma are combined and where they are placed. That is what separates this from a plain platelet-rich plasma treatment, and it is why the course is measured in one or two appointments rather than a standing monthly booking.

The physician

Amiya Prasad, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Founder of TrichoStem Hair Regeneration Centers, and the surgeon who developed the protocol.

Amiya Prasad, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a prominent multi-specialty, board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon who has been in practice in New York City and Long Island for over 20 years. He has helped people with hair loss throughout his career, beginning with surgical hair transplantation, and he is the founder of TrichoStem Hair Regeneration Centers.

Dr. Prasad completed his medical training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, followed by specialty training through the University of Texas in Houston and Galveston and at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board-certified in facial cosmetic surgery as well as breast, body and extremity surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.

His work with hair loss grew out of an unrelated part of his surgical practice. Dr. Prasad had extensive experience applying extracellular matrix, or ECM, made by ACell, Inc. to support healing in surgical procedures such as facelift surgery. In the course of that work he observed that patients treated with ECM were also growing thicker hair in the treated areas. That observation, combined with his background in hair transplant surgery and a careful review of his own patient data, led him to develop the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration System in 2011.

The system is derived from stem cell-based wound healing technology, and Dr. Prasad's insight into the formulation and application of extracellular matrix has made it one of the most sought-after non-surgical treatments for pattern hair loss. He established TrichoStem Hair Regeneration Centers to make the treatment available beyond his New York practices, and he sees patients at the Vienna, Virginia office as well as in Manhattan and Garden City, Long Island.

Why patients choose this centre

Innovation you can trace to a person, and credentials you can check

Plenty of clinics offer an injectable for hair loss. The difference here is where the protocol came from and who is holding the syringe.

The protocol was developed here, not licensed in

Dr. Prasad developed the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration System in 2011 and has refined it across more than a decade of his own patients. When you ask why something is done a particular way, the answer comes from the person who worked it out rather than from a manual.

A multi-specialty board-certified surgeon

Dr. Prasad is board-certified in facial cosmetic surgery and in breast, body and extremity surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Hair loss is assessed by a surgeon who can also tell you when surgery is not the answer.

Non-surgical, with no donor area

There is no incision, no strip, no follicular unit extraction and no donor site to heal. That matters for people who are not candidates for transplant surgery, who do not want a procedure with visible downtime, or who simply want to try something less invasive first.

Treated once or twice, not managed daily

The protocol is built around a small number of treatments rather than a product you have to remember every morning for the rest of your life. For many patients that is the practical difference that makes them consider it at all.

Out-of-the-box by origin, not by branding

The treatment exists because a surgeon noticed hair thickening around an unrelated wound-healing application and followed the observation instead of dismissing it. That willingness to work outside the standard frame is the reason this option is on the table.

Available in Vienna, Virginia

Patients across Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC area are seen at the Tysons Medical West office in Vienna, rather than having to travel to New York for an assessment.

Outcomes and expectations

What is realistic, and what nobody can promise you

Hair loss is a field with a long history of overstatement. This section is deliberately plain about where the line sits between what is reported and what is guaranteed.

What the practice reports

TrichoStem publishes that most patients are treated in one to two sessions and that patients report thicker hair lasting three to five years or longer. These are the practice's own reported outcomes across its patient population, not a projection for any individual.

What varies from person to person

Age, sex, how early the thinning began, how far it has progressed, the medications you take and your general health all influence what is realistic. Two people with the same visible pattern can reasonably be given different advice.

What the treatment does not do

This is not a cure for pattern hair loss and it does not create hair where follicles are entirely gone. Areas that have been completely bare for many years are unlikely to respond, and that will be said plainly at the consultation rather than after payment.

How progress is judged

Change is gradual and hard to see day to day, which is why standardised photographs at the start give you something objective to compare against later. Progress is reviewed against those images rather than against memory.

No guarantee of results

Individual results vary and no result is guaranteed. Nothing on this website is a promise of a particular outcome, and nothing here is medical advice. Whether this treatment is appropriate for you can only be determined in a consultation with a physician.

In a patient voice

Sample testimonials, clearly labelled as samples

No real patient reviews have been supplied for this site yet, so the quotes below are written examples showing the tone this section is built for. They are not real patients and are not evidence of results.

Placeholder content. Every quote in this section is illustrative copy written for the layout. Replace them with verified patient testimonials before this site goes live, or remove the section entirely.

What stayed with me was being told plainly which parts of my scalp were likely to respond and which were not. I had spent two years being sold certainty by people who had never looked at my head.

Sample testimonial
Illustrative copy, not a real patient

I went in expecting to be booked for surgery and left with a recommendation to wait six months and photograph it properly first. That is not the appointment I thought I was walking into.

Sample testimonial
Illustrative copy, not a real patient

The part that mattered to me was that it was one appointment rather than something I had to remember every single morning. I had already failed at the daily version twice.

Sample testimonial
Illustrative copy, not a real patient

Nobody promised me anything, which I found reassuring rather than worrying. The photographs at the start meant I could actually judge the change instead of guessing at it.

Next step

Start with a consultation, not a commitment

The first appointment exists to answer one question: whether this treatment is a reasonable option for your pattern of hair loss. If the answer is no, you will be told so.
